That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Aprilaire HVAC Cleaning in New York City: What to Know First

Aprilaire HVAC cleaning in New York City typically costs between $290 and $540 for a standard single-system cleaning, and our calendar usually has availability within five to seven business days. We’re an independent Aprilaire service provider - not affiliated with the manufacturer - which means we make parts and labor decisions based on what’s inside your system, not on a corporate playbook. If you own an Aprilaire air handler, evaporator coil, or whole-home dehumidifier, this page will tell you exactly how we clean it, what it costs, and what you’ll receive afterward. Call (806) 606-6902 for a written price.

How Aprilaire Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Aprilaire builds solid equipment, but after 12 years of opening these units across the five boroughs, we’ve seen clear patterns. Here are the five failure modes we encounter most often on Aprilaire HVAC cleaning calls in New York City.

  • Evaporator coil fouling on the 5000-series air purifiers. The Aprilaire 5000 and 5000E units pull air through a media filter and an electronic cell. When that media seal degrades, unfiltered air bypasses the filter and deposits a gray, matted film directly onto the evaporator coil downstream. The camera shows it as a patchy layer, thickest near the coil’s leading edge. We remove the coil carefully, clean it with a non-acidic coil cleaner, and replace the media seal so the bypass doesn’t recur.
  • Blower wheel buildup on Aprilaire 7000-series air handlers. The 7000-series blower wheels are dense and finned, which makes them efficient but also makes them collect dust like a filter themselves. We see wheels carrying an eighth to a quarter inch of packed dust, which drops static pressure and makes the system run longer to hit the thermostat setting. We pull the blower assembly, clean each fin, and rebalance if the buildup caused any wobble.
  • Condensate pan and drain issues on Aprilaire 1750 and 1770 dehumidifiers. These units sit in basements and crawlspaces in New York City, where summer humidity is relentless. The drain ports clog with a paste of dust and biological growth, and then water backs up into the pan. The pan rusts, the unit cycles erratically, and the air passing over it picks up a musty smell. We clear the drain, clean the pan, and treat the coil with an EPA-registered antimicrobial that’s safe for Aprilaire’s aluminum fins.
  • Heat exchanger surface contamination on Aprilaire 800-series steam humidifiers installed on furnace systems. When steam humidifiers are mounted upstream of a furnace heat exchanger, mineral dust from the steam cycle settles onto the hot surfaces and bakes into a crust. On inspection, it looks like a white or tan scale, and it reduces heat transfer enough to matter on a cold January night. We clean it with a soft brush and vacuum before it becomes a permanent layer.
  • Filter rack bypass on older Aprilaire media cabinets in pre-war buildings. Many New York City pre-war apartments and brownstones have Aprilaire media cabinets installed sideways or at odd angles near the return plenum. When the cabinet door doesn’t seal, air pulls around the filter, and the entire supply side gets dusted. The fix is sealing the rack properly, then cleaning whatever downstream contamination accumulated. This is a common one we see in Queens and Brooklyn homes with original radiators retrofitted to forced air.

Our Aprilaire HVAC Cleaning Process

Our Aprilaire HVAC Cleaning Process

Every Aprilaire job in New York City follows the same sequence, and we don’t skip steps. Here’s how it runs from the first call to the final photo.

  1. 1
Call and scope. You call (806) 606-6902, describe your system, and we tell you what the inspection will find before we even set a date. If you have a competitor’s written estimate, we’ll put our own number next to it. Free second opinion, always.
  2. 2
Camera inspection before anything is touched. Our technician arrives, lays down floor protection, and runs a camera into the supply plenum and return drop. You see the feed in real time. If there’s a 3-inch debris build-up at the first elbow, you’ll see it on the screen before we quote a cleaning.
  3. 3
Written scope and price. We write down every duct run, every coil, every blower assembly that needs work, with a line-item price. Haven Standard Clause 1: no work starts until you’ve seen the number and agreed to it in writing.
  4. 4
Negative-pressure extraction and component cleaning. We seal the registers, connect a professional-grade negative-pressure machine (Rotobrush or Nikro units, depending on the system), and clean each duct run. Coils, blower wheels, and pans are cleaned by hand where the machine can’t reach.
  5. 5
Before-and-after photo record. Every duct run is photographed before and after. You receive the full set as part of the standard job record - not as an add-on, not as a “premium package.” The photo tells you what’s in there. Everything else is just paperwork.
  6. 6
Post-cleaning system check and warranty. We run the system, confirm airflow and static pressure are within the expected range for your Aprilaire unit, and hand you the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, we make it right.

What Aprilaire HVAC Cleaning Costs in New York City

Here are the real numbers for Aprilaire work in New York City, based on what we’ve billed over the past twelve months.

  • Evaporator coil cleaning only: $180 to $290, depending on access and how much disassembly the coil cabinet requires.
  • Whole-system HVAC cleaning (ducts, coil, blower, drain pan): $390 to $540 for a typical two-to-three-bedroom apartment or single-family home.
  • Aprilaire 1750/1770 dehumidifier cleaning: $160 to $240, including drain line clearing and coil treatment.
  • Filter rack sealing and replacement media seal: $90 to $140, parts included.

What moves the price: system size, how much disassembly the unit requires, and the age of the installation. A 2019 Aprilaire air handler in a Chelsea condo is usually straightforward. A 2005 Aprilaire forced-air unit shoehorned into a pre-war West Village closet takes longer. Either way, you’ll get the written price before we start. Call (806) 606-6902 for an exact quote on your system - estimates are free and we don’t do per-vent pricing games.

He’s the one who reviews your before-and-after photos before they reach your inbox.
